Great Video Michelle! I couldn't agree more with the notion of Security Layers. I work with schools across the country and beyond providing Visitor Passes for badging and identifying Parents, Visitors, etc. on school campuses as a layer of security as well!

Hi Michele. Good points, but given the choice of an active shooter gaining entry to my room versus using an effective, less than perfect temporary barricade or lock down device, I'll choose the latter every time. Keep up the good work.

Don- to your point, could you explain how one would gain entry to your room if you have the correct lock on it? I mean, why chose the latter if the lock is correct?
Thanks.

If they had a correct lock, they probably wouldn't, and I'm surely not saying that schools 'shouldn't' use one. But the reality is many/most districts don't have them (lack of funds, denial, ignorance of the options, etc., etc,). In a crisis option, ABN (anything beats nothing). Stay safe.

Thank you Michelle, as an SRO working in 4 different districts, I've seen many different kinds of door locks, and even some with only one way to lock the door with a key from the outside. Like you, my push from the Colorado Association of School Resource Officers is to bring more consistency to locks, hardware and overall building security.
